Today I want to discuss pregnant belly dance costume ideas.
When you’re a pregnant belly dancer, it seems your only costuming option is to show your entire baby bump, which not all of us are comfortable with.
So here are 5 fun maternity belly dance outfit ideas that I recommend. Let’s get started!

5 Pregnant Belly Dance Costume Ideas!
Idea #1. Showcase your belly
So this is the most common way that many pregnant belly dancers dress up, which is to wear a regular circle skirt under your belly.
I’m wearing my Zeina skirt with built-in shorts here, and I love the overall look, especially with this size adjustable lace belt. It’s pretty and comfy.
The only problem with this style is that once you have a baby bump, you’ll be wearing your circle skirt lower than you normally would, making the front of the skirt longer. This makes it easy for you to trip over the skirt, so I recommend you at least roll up the waistband to make sure the front of the skirt is not too long for you.
The built-in shorts help me feel more comfortable with the extra coverage. As long as you can make the front of the skirt shorter, this is a great option for all trimesters.
Idea #2. High-waisted Hip Scarf
This is from the practice outfit series I did back in January, and my belly has grown a bit bigger since then, but this hip scarf fits nicely since this is also adjustable.
Hiding a belly bump like this is not very conventional, but it’s more conservative, and I love this look. It’s comfy, and I don’t feel self-conscious about my belly.
You can wear maternity leggings or comfy flare pants underneath to complete the outfit. This is a great practice outfit option for all trimesters, in my opinion.
Idea #3. High-waisted Skirt
This is my Daria mermaid skirt, and it is high-waisted, and fitted at the top.
I really like how my belly looks in this skirt. Here, I am 7 months pregnant, and thanks to the stretch of the fabric, the skirt feels comfy around the belly and also well supported. But it may become too tight in the next couple of months.
The skirt length has become a little shorter because the baby bump lifts the skirt a little, but I don’t mind it for this skirt. It feels safer this way.
I think this is a really great option until the 2nd trimester or until the waist feels too tight.
Idea #4. Full coverage dress
This is my Mirage dress, and this one-piece dress is made of powermesh. Powermesh dresses stretch really well, so this one still feels comfortable. But it is difficult to close up the zipper at the back.
What I love about this dress is that the skirt part is attached to the powermesh base, so there’s no pressure around the stomach. It fits softly around my belly, so it’s very comfortable.
This is also a very good option until the 2nd trimester.
Idea #5. Loose Fit dress
Here’s my Aziza Baladi Dress, and this design offers partial coverage over the torso. It’s snug around the hips, and it’s designed to fit you loosely around the belly.
The loose fit makes room for my belly, and I really love how my belly looks in this one! It shows my baby bump, but not too much.
The hip scarf is attached, which is really helpful now that I don’t have the same curves to keep a hip scarf up around my hips.
Also, here’s my Aziza Baladi Dress, a full-coverage version. This one is also a loose-fitting dress, and this hugs my baby bump loosely. It’s pretty and comfy. I did have to wear my belt a little lower to accommodate my belly.
These loose-fit dresses are my favorite, and they are great for all trimesters. Plus, these dresses are very easy to make, and great for post-pregnancy days as well.
Bonus Tips on Bra & Belt
For pregnant dancers, I recommend bra tops with stretch side straps. This one is based on my Dina Bra, and felt the most comfortable out of all bras, and I didn’t have to move the hooks at all.
For belts, you can lower regular belts under your belly, but after a while, they will become too tight. I recommend something adjustable like this lace belt, which is very easy to make, and you don’t have to worry about moving hooks or adding length as your belly grows.
