I’ve been seeing this type of rhinestone belt a lot recently, and I thought this would be perfect to layer over my new dress!
So today you’ll see how I made this rhinestone belt. It’s comfy and pretty, and I highly recommend you try!
Let’s get started!

How to Make Rhinestone Belt for Belly Dance
To make this rhinestone belt I used:
1cm (3/8in) wide elastic
20cm (8in) stretch fabric
Matching color thread
1 pair of snap button
Rhinestones and rhinestone glue
First, I wrapped the elastic around my waist to find the most comfortable length. It’s best to stand with your back straight in a dance posture to get the right length. I added 1cm (3/8in) to the length and cut the elastic.
Then I cut the stretch fabric that is 3.5cm (1 3/8in) wide and 2cm (3/4in) longer than the elastic. Make sure the direction of the stretch is parallel to your elastic.
Fold it right sides together lengthwise, and do a zigzag stitch with a 5mm (1/4in) seam allowance.
Turn it inside out (I’m using a safety pin here to do that), and insert elastic through it (again, I’m using a safety pin to do this).
Straighten out everything and fold in the ends and sew.
I’ve seen similar rhinestone belts made with something that looked like bra straps. If you use a bra strap, you can skip this step entirely, but I’m not a fan of using an element that reminds me of lingerie for a dance costume. So I went for covered elastic.
Now at the ends, I sew on my snap button. Place the socket side on the right side, and the stud side on the wrong side.
And then I just had fun gluing rhinestones to the belt. For this one, I used the nude color base and clear rhinestones so I can wear it with a lot of different dresses, but it would also be really cool to match the color with your costume or even use a contrasting color or multiple colors of rhinestones! Be creative!
And my rhinestone belt is complete!
It is really easy to make, and it’s super comfy because it’s elastic and made exactly to my size. And this belt instantly glams up the whole outfit! I love how it goes over the cutouts of my dress!
