Recently, I made a video on DIY Fringe Hip Scarves for Tiazza’s Free Bellydance Classes.
If you haven’t heard, Tiazza’s website is an awesome resource for belly dancers! You can find lots of videos on techniques, music, cultures… and discussions on interesting topics. I will include a link here once my video is published 🙂 It is such an honour, and I am super excited about it!!
So, since it was a very simple hip scarf design, I wanted to share a way to spice up the look by adding a design to the fringe.
In this video, I will take the fringe hip scarf and go a bit fancier, and make a net design with the fringe. If you have or made a belly dance hip scarf that needs a bit of fun, this is super easy, and can be done in less than 20 minutes.
So to make a net fringe design, you need a hip scarf with long fringe. This one I’m using in this video is about 34 cm or 13 in long.

How to Make a Net Fringe Design for Belly Dance Hip Scarf
First, hang your hip scarf. You can use something like the back of a chair like this or use a hanger. If you lay the scarf flat, then the net design becomes wonky when you wear the hip scarf. Take about 8 strands at a time from the fringe and make a knot close to the edge.
Continue all the way, and you’ve already got this fun, simple look.
Then you can take it even further, and go back to the beginning, take half of the fringe from the first bunch, and half from the next one, so about 8 strands in total, and tie a knot. And do the same for the next one and continue. Try to keep the distance between the first row of knots and the second row the same. And if you have long fringe like this one, you can more layers.
And now you have this awesome net design on your hip scarf!
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial. It is an easy way to add personality to your simple hip scarf! If you make your own, share some photos on Sparkly Belly’s Facebook page, and sign up for my newsletter below to get freebies including this free hip scarf pattern. 🙂
