The best part of my job is seeing my students’ creations 🙂
It’s quite magical when costumers combine what they learned in my courses and their creativity, and create their very own belly dance costumes. I often learn from them too!
Let me show you what I mean. Here are 9 of my students and their beautiful creations!
Sparkly Belly Student Showcase
Jillian
Simply gorgeous dress and photography! In her Instagram post, she shows her own Aziza Baladi Dress and Dina Bra.
I love how the stones are used on black bra and hip scarf. They add a nice amount of sparkles to this simple yet lovely outfit. The matching headband, AND matching flower garden, complete with an adorable puppy – just perfect!
Nan
Nan emailed me and said, “Here’s my dancer in my first try at the hourglass dress course. I really enjoyed working through this course. Your directions are so clear, and the pacing is comfortable. I do still need to fine-tune the pattern (she is very tall, and I think the waist curve needs to be moved down) and the hem needs work, but overall a useful addition to my costume-making skills. Very worthwhile investment! Thank you, Mao.”
The sparkly mesh panels are so powerful in this outfit! A great way to save time on decoration, because these embellished panels will shine under stage lights. Love the matching armbands!
Jessica
The velvet skirt in deep blue – so luxurious! Love how it matches her beautiful hair color. This is Aurora Convertible Skirt, and those side swags and tail are detachable!
Great idea to use sparkly mesh for the side swags. They look lightweight, and I’m a big fan of layering textures! The original post is here.
Kata Maya
This outfit, made for her student by Kata Maya, is so sweet. She used the side swags from the Aurora Convertible Skirt course.
The mix of coral and blue lace is so beautiful and eye-catching! The back view of the outfit shows how the side swags frame the dancer’s hip area and accentuate the hourglass silhouette.
You can make a similar bra top in Dina Bra from Scratch and a similar mermaid skirt in the Belly Dance Costume Workshop 🙂
Ashley
A gorgeous outfit featuring a Swirly Belt and matching appliques!
I often learn a lot from how my students place Swirly appliques on a bra top. Here, I really like she placed small flower motifs along the bottom of the bra top, which creates a very different look from a regular straight bottom edge.
And I see a little peek of another flower motif on her leg accessory. Love matching accessories!
Celeste
This post by Celeste had over 300 likes and it’s no wonder why. It’s a stunning Hourglass Dress, and look at the perfect fit!
The mix of silver velvet and red motifs is rather unusual and beautiful! It’s probably because of the silver lines on the red panels that tie the colors together. The outfit looks complete with the matching veil and armbands!
Sandra
Look at this sweet outfit! Sandra used the Aziza Baladi Dress, Dina Bra and Swirly Belt.
I love that the fabric used for the dress has texture, but simple, so the orange bra top and belt pop! I really appreciate the thoughtful placement of the appliques on the bra top as well. The original post is here.
Fanny
In these photos (here and here), you can see how Fanny created a completely original design using the Swirly Belt and Appliques techniques.
Using the techniques shown in the course, you can create your very own designs. And Fanny did a fantastic job of that! These large motifs really make this outfit unique and original. I can see that she paid attention to details because the edges of these appliques are super neat and clean!
Jenny
Jenny emailed me and said, “I have finished my first ruffle skirt following your excellent instructions. I learnt a lot, and it wasn’t entirely straight forward – however I am pleased with the end result.”
She used a sari and lace to create this beautiful ruffle skirt. She didn’t have enough fabric, so created a simple front panel – what a creative solution! It looks fantastic, and I love that WOW factor when you can see different designs as the dancer turns around on stage.
So there you have 9 amazing creations by my students. I learned so much from each one of them, and I hope you enjoyed this showcase as much as I did putting it together!
What will you make next? 🙂
